Community
It's important to be able to contact
the proper businesses and suppliers, especially when organizing a "long
distance" reunion. The following books can put you in touch with Chambers of
Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureaus, hotels, tour companies, airlines,
etc. These books are in most libraries.
Phone Books--
To
purchase any current phone book in the U.S., call 800/848-8000, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(PST). Visa or Mastercharge can be used, or if your local phone company is
Pacific Bell or Nevada Bell, the charges can be added to your phone bill. The

Facts, Figures and Trivia--
Chronologies,
yearly histories, old newspapers, and encyclopedia yearbooks (annual volumes)
are good for finding interesting facts and figures for mailers, newsletters, and
reunion programs. Your local library reference section is the place to start

creating newsletters; covers the whole gamut from hand-crafted to

- Editing Your Newsletter by M. Beach. Newsletters and mailers are often what sells a
reunion. This is one of the best books on the subject. Order from

- The National Archives. This federal agency has
available regionally-created federal records located in regional archives in
or near Boston (Waltham, MA), New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta (East Point,
GA), Chicago, Kansas City, Fort Worth, Denver, Los Angeles (Laguna Niguel,
CA), San Francisco (San Bruno, CA), Seattle and Anchorage. For phone numbers,

- The Family History Library of the LDS Church, 35 N.
West Temple St, Salt Lake City, UT 84150, houses the most extensive collection
of genealogical information in the world. Documents from around the world have
been microfilmed and are available for inspection. The library is open every
day except Sunday and holidays. The library information number is

- The LDS Church also has over 2000 Family History
Centers located throughout the world. These Centers are small repositories
that are linked to the main library in Salt Lake City, and are good places for
beginners to learn about genealogy. Look in the white pages of your phone book
under Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, then under that title look
for genealogy library or Family History Center. Or write to the main library

Reunion Conferences and

by far the most serious family reunion conference in the U.S. to date.
